\"Atlantic Gray Cowrie,\" Reef Creature Identification, Paul Humann & Ned Deloach. Lustrous, medium-brown to mauve shell with dark brown to black flecks. Mantle mottled in shades of brown and mauve, and covered with numerous fleshy warts with forked extensions. Inhabits coral reefs, often on undersides of ledge overhangs and in recesses. The shell\'s lustrous finish is produced by the fleshy mantle, which can cover the entire surface. Common to uncommon from Southeast Florida and the Caribbean.
