\"Astrangia danae,\" Field Book of Seashore Life, Roy Waldo Miner. The principal coral found in this region (shallow oceanic waters of the Atlantic Coast of North America from Labrador to Cape Hatteras, North Carolina)is the star coral, Astrangia danae. They are whitish or slightly pink in color and are so translucent that the edges of their mesenteries show through the polyp wall as little vertical white lines. The tentacles which border the disc are comparatively small in number, but are covered with tiny papilla like batteries of sting cells.
