\"Tubularia couthouyi,\" Field Book of Seashore Life, Ralph Waldo Miner. The hydroid is solitary, growing up from a branched, rootlike stolon. The hydranths are sometimes 1/3 inch in diameter. There are about 30 to 40 basal tentacles and as many as 50 shorter and smaller oral tentacles. The gonophores grow in long clusters, each with four radial canals. The range is from New Brunswick to the southern New England coast.
